Locals are gearing up for the 2011 麻豆社国产Triathlon and a trio of triathletes proved they should be ready to tackle the big race on Sunday (July 10) after strong showings at the Vancouver International Triathlon on Sunday (July 3).
Three locals took part in the half-Ironman version of the race, which saw competitors swim for 1.9 kilometres, bike for 91 kilometres and run for 20 km, in and around Spanish Banks in Vancouver.
Squamish's Volker Schneider posted the top local time, finishing 17th overall and winning his 40 to 44 age division. Schneider sat in 78th place after the swimming portion but then made up a significant amount of time in both the running and biking portion to place in the top 20. He completed the course in four hours, 39 minutes, 26 seconds, approximately 37 minutes behind the leader. Schneider will take on the 麻豆社国产Triathlon on Sunday, before competing in his second Ironman Canada in Penticton on Aug. 28.
Local triathlete Tim Moore also fared well in Vancouver, finishing 47th overall and placing fourth in his 45 to 49 age group. Moore raced consistently, placing in the high 40s in each discipline and posting a total time of 4:53:59. 麻豆社国产resident Derek Gagne was another local with a solid showing at the race. Gagne placed 89th overall and smashed his previous record for a half Ironman by more than half an hour, with a time of 5:22:08.
All three competitors will race in the 麻豆社国产Triathlon this Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m.
