Squamish's Lauren Rosser appears to be right on track in her preparations for the mountain bike World Championships later this month in Switzerland.
Fresh off of her victory in the Canadian downhill championships the previous weekend, Rosser topped fellow 麻豆社国产resident Miranda Miller to win a Canada Cup downhill on Sunday (July 31) at Panorama, B.C. She is set to compete in one more World Cup event before the World Championships, Aug. 31 to Sept. 4 in Champery, Switzerland.
"The World Cup will be my last race this season," she said. "These two wins will give me the points I need to get there and give me the confidence to know I can do really well at Worlds."
Rosser finished the Panorama course on Sunday in three minutes, 51.67 seconds, almost eight seconds ahead of fellow Squamolean Miller (3:59.30), who placed second. Danice Usuegi of North Vancouver (4:05.38) finished third.
Rob Fraser of Pickering, Ont., won the men's event in 3:24.60.
Joining Rosser in Switzerland will be local rider Neal Kindree, who was also named to represent Canada in the cross-country biking event. Kindree will be on the development team and will race alongside a star-studded lineup of top racers like Olympian Geoff Kabush and Canadian Champion Max Plaxton. The elite women's team is highlighted by three-time Test of Metal winner Catharine Pendrel from Kamloops.
Rosser will compete on Canada's Junior Women's cross-country team and hopes to earn a spot on the downhill team. The Canadian downhill team was set to be named this week. That announcement came too late to make The Chief's press deadline.
